21″ Round Shield Rotella – 16 Gauge

This style of shield was used most commonly in Italy (Rotella) and Spain (Rodela) but also used in other European countries such as England where it was known as a target. Rotellas can be seen in various treaties such as Achille Marozzo’s Opera Nova dell’Arte delle Armi from the 16^th century.

Our Round Rotella Shield is hand beaten from 16 gauge steel – making it both tough and durable enough for re-enactment and HEMA.  You can still see the traces of the smith’s hammer marks on the surface.  It features 2 adjustable leather straps and cushioning pad for the arm to soak up impact.
